Does Anything Work in Vista??

This may be the only time in my life where I actually willingly downgraded an OS. I detailed all sorts of frustrations with Vista in this post. That's just that start:

  • Orcas does not compile programs in Vista (Ok, its beta, but Vista should be a prime platform)
  • I cannot burn any DVDs either using Vista itself or the included Nero Express (on the Alienware). It just goes into never never land
  • I bought an unbelievable top of the line Alienware. Its got a Windows Experience Rating of 4.1 (Graphics are 5.9) and all I see is hour glasses. If this system is not the ultimate Vista system I don't know what is!
  • Vista Ultimate shut off my 2nd NVidia® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS - SLI Enabled because NVidia can't be bothered to release a Vista SLI driver even they have had at least 3 years with the OS
  • File copies and moves are broken even to the internal hard drives taking minutes
  • Networking is much slower than XP
  • File copies to a computer RIGHT NEXT to it over the network never complete and time out

I hate to complain but I am left wondering if I buy a top of the line machine and I can't even burn DVDs, then what does work? Anything?? We waited five years for this? I do realize that I had much better experiences with a different machine but I wonder why Vista is like this that you can go from one extreme to another. Does XP start to make more sense for this machine? Don't know yet...

UPDATE: It's looking like it may be the Alienware causing a bunch of the problems
