SOA
-
Nick Mallik says, "As I've discussed many times, SOA is not a product. It is an architectural style. That said, products can help leverage and encourage SOA." Amen to that. That is what I have been saying in my SOA talks for 2 years now and I will stongly say this Saturday again. In fact, I would go further and say it's not only an architectural style but a business focus activity. Technology is secondary and only applicable to the delivery of the services that were identified during the business process phases.
-
Nick also makes the point that Reusable Service design is quite different than Independent service design. That's the A in SOA, that dreaded Architecture term that certain communities abhor

Bobby Woolfe, co-author of the bible on Integration Patterns talks about a new ebook that he and IBM produced: Exploring IBM SOA Technology & Practice is an e-book (a PDF). You can download a sample chapter (PDF) that contains the full table of contents and the first several pages of the e-book. I bought the book yesterday and it's fantastic!!
