.NET Framework Library Source Code Release!!
I was given this information on the release of the .NET Framework Reference Code to give out:
.NET Framework Reference Source Key Messages
-
The developer community response to the .NET Framework Reference Source announcement last October was very positive. Access to the .NET Framework source code helps developers write to the Microsoft Platform by giving them more insight as well as gives developers the powerful new tool for debugging and developing applications.
-
We did receive some feedback from the community about potential impacts of viewing the source, therefore we have updated the standard Microsoft Reference License to the .NET Framework Reference License to address these concerns.
-
Access to the .NET Reference Source, under this license, will be available to users of Visual Studio 2008 on January 16, 2008. The license clarifies that developers working on products similar to the .NET Framework for non-Windows operating systems are not covered by this license. Developers that fall outside this group will be covered by the .NET Reference Source License.
-
Microsoft plans to add more source to the Reference Source offering after launch. The availability of this source is great example of how Microsoft is listening and reacting to the needs of its developers and pushing on to another milestone in transparency around our development efforts.
