Kids go back to school tomorrow - yay!

Web

  • So the big news of the day is Google's beta of “Chrome” it's attempt at a web browser. I have to say, I am *completely* under whelmed. There is little there except for the name and is nothing other than an effort from Google to continue their ways and take browser share from Microsoft. Its really all about taking down Microsoft. If Google truly wanted to help innovate the community they would have contributed to Mozilla. Bzzt.

Visual Studio/Developer Tools/ALT.NET

  • The other big news of the day, and this time very welcome, is Jet Brain's 4.1 release of Resharper! 4.1 adds support for VS 2008 SP1, better ASP.NET support, performance improvements and what looks to be a whole lot of bug fixes

Cloud Computing

  • I continue to be concerned about Microsoft's big focus on Cloud Computing. I just don't see  a lot of demand in corporate America and enterprise customers are not going to give over trust of their data. According to a recent survey of top CIOs by Goldman Sachs & Co., cloud computing was the last item on their priority lists. As said here, "But it's rather obvious from the simple advantages of cloud computing, that gauging the benefits of cloud computing does not, in fact, require much technical understanding. It's far more likely that executives and managers are avoiding cloud computing because they do understand the implications, and are simply making logical decisions to protect their business data."
